KHAYBAR
AMSTERDAM
WHAT WE ARE
A specialty coffee roastery & salon in Noord Amsterdam. We operate the 9:1 manner: for every 9kg of coffee roasted, 1 fresh meal is prepared and given.
Not charity. The manner of doing business with soul.
THE ORIGIN
"Coffee was discovered by a Sufi master in Yemen — drunk by his students to stay awake for the night prayers. The first coffee house was not a café. It was a zawiya — a place of remembrance."
KHAYBAR returns coffee to its original house.

PROPOSAL FOR THE AMSTERDAM COFFEE FESTIVAL 2026
WHY DOES THIS
INDUSTRY HAVE
NO SOUL?
A 20-minute talk that will change how your audience thinks about every cup of coffee they buy.
THE TALK
KHAYBAR is a specialty coffee roastery and salon in Amsterdam Noord. We operate the "9:1 manner" — for every 9 kilograms of coffee sold, one fresh meal is prepared and distributed to someone who did not ask for it.
Not through a charity mechanism. Through the integrity of the price, the intention of the roaster, and the manner in which we do business.
"Coffee was invented by Sufi masters in Yemen, shared in places of remembrance, carried by traders who believed that commerce could also be service. Somewhere along the way, the industry forgot this. Why?"
This talk is not a criticism of specialty coffee. It is an invitation to remember where coffee came from — and what it could still be.
WHAT THE AUDIENCE RECEIVES
The origin story
Where coffee actually came from — the Sufi master, the zawiya, the night prayers.
The 9:1 model
Live: how the margin between cost and price becomes a meal. The receipt, shown on stage.
The challenge
A direct question to every roastery and brand in the room: what is your coffee actually for?
An invitation
To join a network. Not as customers — as partners in a manner of business with intention.
WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR
20 minutes on the main or secondary stage
A brief introduction: "KHAYBAR, Amsterdam"
No commercial arrangement required — just the podium and the question
"The nourishment of the body is food.
The nourishment of the soul is feeding others."
